The Voice App
Emmy nominated, The Voice App was made to be one of the most engaging live apps and essential for fans. From inception, we collaborated with our programming teams to create a unique app that grows with the series. With billions of interactions weekly, The Voice App set a standard in the industry, boosting viewership and engagement through live voting, coach interactions, contestant videos, and major partner/sponsor opportunities.
PRODUCT GOALS
The live voting feature is a key part of The Voice App. Before the Official App, audiences could only vote through the web, phone, and text. We had three main goals for the new app:
Boost voting through the app.
Maintain audience engagement during and after the show.
Create a simple, easy and enjoyable experience.
HABIT FORMING FEATURES
The Voice App gives you control over the show, affecting the results each night. Fans can interact before the show by tweeting with the coaches. Users can express their feelings about performances, create their own teams, take part in Instant Saves, and compete with each other during shared experiences..
OUTCOMES & RESULTS
The app was a huge success. By the end of the first season, audience votes reached over 50 million; and over 10 seasons, it set a new standard for engaging fans. Voting rose by 550%, with 90% of votes coming from the app.
There were over 2.5 million downloads in the first season and an increase of 5.25 million each season, totaling over 40 million downloads so far. This project was one of my favorite experiences as a Design and Product leader, showcasing continuous improvements each season to enhance the experience for customers and fans. Additionally, we created a live voting feature for Amazon Alexa and Comcast X1 using voice prompts and commands.
The America's Got Talent
After the success of The Voice App, we created the Official America's Got Talent App during the show's 9th Season. It’s tough to introduce new opportunities for a well-established series. Our goal was to use The Voice's success to offer an engaging experience that highlighted key moments for audience interaction during live shows. My teams concentrated on fun and inspiring moments to foster an emotional link to the live broadcast.
HABIT FORMING FEATURES
The AGT App had ads, quizzes, and live visuals to make watching the show more fun and interactive. Besides voting, users could express feelings, tweet to judges, and make their own buzzer sounds to challenge friends and family.
OUTCOMES & RESULTS
The AGT App quickly surpassed the Voice App, reaching over 750,000 downloads in just two weeks. In its first three seasons, it had more than 10 million users. In-app interactions grew by over 750%, with 95% of live votes cast through the app.
It had over 2.5 million downloads in the first season and grew by more than 5 million each season. Like before, we improved the app every season with new features during live broadcasts.
